For the past year, Christie has been working on technology that expands the capabilities of today’s automatic projection-calibration systems. The company's latest technology can seamlessly calibrate projection-mapped displays automatically. Now easy, affordable, and accessible projection mapping is possible on any surface – smooth or complex, even 3D.

Projection mapping (or “Shader Lamp”) applications use complex models or features in architecture and the surrounding environment as the display canvas. This powerful and engaging projection application is used for entertainment, visualization, and marketing. But until now, initial setup of a projection-mapped display required a high degree of expertise, and ongoing maintenance of the displays was expensive. For these reasons, projection-mapping displays are usually installed only in large-scale entertainment venues.

At SIGGRAPH 2015, Christie presents automatic alignment of a 3D model using its Automapper technology, which can maintain the alignment of a projection display in less than 30 seconds, even after the projector and/or the projection surface is moved.
